text: Dec. 25 1162 - Mar. 1 1163 Tyre. Petrus Tyrensis archiepiscopus, together with his chapter, confirms his eleemosynary grant to domnus Nicholaus, prior, and the convent of the Holy Sepulchre. This consisted of the entire tithe of a casale called Derina, which the canons possessed. Any dependency of the casale which the canons acquire would be freed from the tithe. Petrus also gave the tithe of an enclosed viridarium between the wall and forewall of Tyre [inter murum et ejus antemurale], with a berquilium. He now adds his grant of the tithe taken on 4 carruce terre, next to the casale of Derina, which had been given to the Holy Sepulchre by King Baldwin II. Bohemond III, son of Raymond late prince of Antioch, makes an eleemosynary grant to Girbertus Hospitalis magister and the brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, confirming all the endowments made in alms by his father Prince Raymond and the other princes and barones throughout the land of Antioch. He adds the gift of a ship [grippus] on the lake [of Antioch], with the freedom that his barones of Antioch already enjoyed, and the house of Barutellus in Antioch, which Barutellus and his wife Sarracena left in alms after their deaths. He confirms all the gifts [beneficia] made to the Order, with the proviso that a knight’s fief [feodum militis] should not be diminished and his curia does not lose servicium. He specifies: a house in Antioch with a garden next door, near the church of St John Chrystostom [Johannes Os Aurie]; a canuta in vico Malfetanorum; a domuncula with a garden in vico S. Pauli. Outside the city of Antioch, the casalia of Assis, Ursan and Melessis, which were given by Prince Bohemond I; the casale of Balilas in the territory of Harenc; the casale of Churac in the territory of Aironia; the casale of Cisemburg in the territory of Turbassellum; the guastina called Aganir before Tilium; the casalia of Cadir and Ubrie; the casale of Sarata in the territory of Mamistra; the casale of Muserac in the land of Cafardan. Prince Bohemond III also confirms: all the properties in the city of Latakia given by Prince Rainald and his predecessors, specifically the baths which are before the house of the Hospital; and the gastina Danielis and the gastina Ugonis Bernardi which were given by dominus Robertus de Surdavalle. Bohemond III gives the Hospital a garden next to its house in Latakia and a rent [assisia] of 40 besants, drawn annually from the tannery [taneria] in exchange for 3 estaconi on the seashore in Latakia. He gives the turon de Beauda with 3 neighbouring gastinae in the territory of Gibellum. He gives a garden within the walls of Gibellum, where the brothers may erect houses. He confirms the gift from Robertus Manselli of a vineyard beyond the spring, with 3 carrucate terre nearby. In addition he gives the Hospital in Gibellum 5 carrucate terre. The Hospitallers ought to have 13 marcibani of wheat and 4 litrae of oil from every harvest [menses (sic)]. They should collect the wheat from the threshing floors [arei (sic)] and the oil from the presses [masseri]. He also gives a rent [assisia] of 50 besants a year from the revenues of Latakia, [made up of] 14 denarii from the taneria, 14 besants from the tentureria and the remaining besants in oleum fossimani. He gives the Hospitallers freedom to come and go with their goods throughout the principality exempt from the payment of dues [consuetudo et exactio curie]. [101] Vivianus dominus de Cayfa, with the consent of his wife Beatrica, his son Paganus, and Hodierna the wife of Paganus, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, giving them a locus in a deserted villa, situated between Cayfa and Palmarea. The property [extends] next to the upper road [superior via] from the ancient gate of the villa facing Palmarea as far as a stone, establishing a boundary beyond the middle of the villa [ultra mediatatem ville pro termino fixum], and from that stone as far as a stone, inscribed with a cross, over the carob tree plantation [carublerium]. It then runs from the stone with the cross over a hill as far as a cava [per collem usque ad fundum cave]. There are ancient tombs within these boundaries. He gives all the land and its level ground from the villa along the public road as far as 2 carob trees, recognizing that the land has been ill-used and is invaded by thorns and denser carob thickets, as far as the large cava from which water flows into Palmarea. His gift is bounded in a straight line from the great cava to the other cava in the deserted villa near the canons’ building, and as far as the top of the mountains. Vivianus adds the gift of a garden within Palmarea, which contains 2 cisterns. His gifts will be freed from all exactions and customs. The canons are free to buy or sell moveables or take out or bring in necessities for their house wherever they are without the payment of customs or tax [consuetudinaria aut premium], but they cannot buy houses and lands without the lord’s licence and they must retain gifts ‘for a year and a day’. Godfrey dux gave 21 casalia: Ainquine, Armotie, Keffrecá, Kefredil, Bubin - these two with the gastina of Bethchamzir being given by the canons to the Knights Templar [militia Templi] in return for the remission of the rent of 150 besants they had paid for the defence of the land - Hubim, Haram, Kalendrie, Bentiligel, Birra - now called Mahomeria Maior - Subahiét, Ataraberét, Vrniét, Zenún, Lemûle, Beutelamus, Aineseins - now called Ual de Curs - Barmita, Beitiumen, Beitfoteire and Betsuric, in the territory of which the villa called Parua Mahomeria has been founded. The canons of the Holy Sepulchre exchanged the 2 casalia, called Capharmalich and Ainquiná, for 2 of the casalia of Iohannes Patricius, called Megina and Mezera. King Amalric confirms the possession by the Holy Sepulchre of half of that property given by King Baldwin I in an exchange relating to the bishopric of Bethlehem. King Baldwin II also gave a casale called Derina, situated in the territory of Tyre close to the great spring [fons] that feeds the aqueduct. The territory of the casale, situated on the hillside, comprises 4 carrucatae [quantum terrę quatuor paria boum de anno in annum excolere possunt]. King Baldwin II gave a garden situated between the wall and forewall of the city beside the sea. He confirmed the gift of half of the casale of Fieisse, now called Casale Sancti Sepulchri, by Eustachius Granerius, and all the land that Galterius, the son of Eustachius gave around the same casale, beyond the river as far as the designated boundaries that are recognized today.
