text: Sept. 13. Anagni. Pope Gregory IX orders the magister and brothers of the Knights Templar to desist from questioning the judgement of the patriarch of Jerusalem, as papal legate, in favour of the right of the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans to wear white mantles, following privileges granted by Pope Honorius III and Gregory himself, and finance supplied by the emperor Frederick. He has ordered the patriarch of Jerusalem and the bishop of Acre, to whom he also writes, to ensure that the Knights Templar conform.

Hearing that between Caesarea and Jaffa Sarraceni are attacking Christian pilgrims, who wish to visit the church of the Holy Sepulchre, Pope Gregory IX orders the magister and brothers of the Knights Templar to patrol the region and assure the pilgrims’ saftety. He orders G. comes de Brenna, who has received from every pilgrim 2 Turonenses towards the expenses of securing the route, to see that it is guarded for 5 years.
