text: Apr. 28. Lateran. Pope Gregory IX writes to the suffragans and all prelates of the province of Jerusalem. The Holy See refused to accept the appointment of Cardinal Th. of St Sabina as patriarch, because he was needed elsewhere in the Church. At the request of the prior and J. and. J. canonici Dominici Sepulcri that the Holy See should provide a pastor, Pope Gregory confirms that G[erold] has been translated from the bishopric of Valence to the patriarchate. The pope enjoins obedience.

text: Sept. 13. Anagni. Pope Gregory IX orders the magister and brothers of the Knights Templar to desist from questioning the judgement of the patriarch of Jerusalem, as papal legate, in favour of the right of the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans to wear white mantles, following privileges granted by Pope Honorius III and Gregory himself, and finance supplied by the emperor Frederick. He has ordered the patriarch of Jerusalem and the bishop of Acre, to whom he also writes, to ensure that the Knights Templar conform.
