text: December 11. Lateran. Pope Alexander IV writes to Archbishop [Hugh] of Nicosia (Nicosiensis), relating that Patriarch [Jacques Pantaléon] of Jerusalem, papal legate, informed him that Pope I[nnocentius IV] had sent a letter to Master [Renaud] and the Templars allowing them to collect up to 10,000 silver marks anywhere outside the Kingdom of Germany from money spent for the redemption of crusading vows in support of the Holy Land and from testaments of the faithful in support of the Holy Land that do not name specific people or places, granting the Templars Archbishop [Henry] of Nazareth as conservator in this matter. On the pretext of this indulgence, the master and brothers collected such redemptions and bequests in the Kingdom of Jerusalem while the see of Jerusalem was vacant. But because, as the patriarch asserted, his predecessors had long been accustomed to receiving such payments and bequests in the kingdom when no papal legate a latere was in the area, the pope sent a letter stating that no indulgence conceded or to be conceded to the Templars or brothers of any other orders or even secular clerics was to prejudice in any way the patriarch’s receiving these payments and bequests in that kingdom. So the pope is sending a letter to the archbishop of Nazareth ordering him not to have these payments made to the master and brothers of the Temple. If the archbishop of Nazareth does not carry out his mandate, the pope orders the archbishop of Nicosia to force him to do so, notwithstanding any papal indulgence or counciliar decision exempting him from interdict, suspension, or excommunication. Pope Alexander IV writes to Archbishop [Hugh] of Nicosia (Nicosiensis), relating that Patriarch [Jacques Pantaléon] of Jerusalem, papal legate, informed him that Pope I[nnocentius IV] had sent a letter to Master [Renaud] and the Templars allowing them to collect up to 10,000... more

Pope Alexander VI writes to the master and brothers of the knighthood of the Temple of Jerusalem, responding to their devout requests by granting that are not held at all nor can they be forced to pay any taxes, collections, subsidies, or sums of money or exactions however they are called for any reason because of their churches, houses, or any other possessions, by any papal or legatine letter obtained or to be obtained without special papal mandate making full and express mention of this indulgence, and the pope declares null and void any sentences of excommunication or interdict promulgated against them contrary to this indulgence. text: January 23. Lateran. Pope Alexander IV writes to the master and brothers of the knighthood of the Temple, relating that the late Pope I[nnocent IV] once granted that they could receive up to 10,000 silver marks outside the Kingdom of Germany from money spent in redemption of crusading vows in support of the Holy Land; from money gained via usury, robbery, or other evil ways that the faithful order to be restored in their last will or are ready to do so while they are living, even if they are healthy, as long as those to whom the money must be restored cannot be found at all; and from testaments of the faithful with bequests to the Holy Land without expressing specific places or persons, assigning them certain executors for this. Afterwards, however, before they received this sum from the above, as is asserted, the present pope granted that Patriarch J[acobus] of Jerusalem could receive the money from the redemptions and bequests in the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Wishing to avoid any trouble between the Templars and the patriarch on account of this, the pope responds to the patriarch's prayers by granting that the Templars can receive the above in the Kingdom of Germany and everywhere else except the Kingdom of Jerusalem as granted by the pope's predecessor until they reach the abovementioned sum. text: February 9. Lateran. Pope Alexander IV writes to the bishops of Totosa (Anteradensis) and Tripoli (Tripolitanus), relating that the petition of Patriarch [Opizo Fieschi] of Antioch that was read to him claimed that although Pope I[nnocentius IV] on the cardinals' advice ordered Master A. of the Temple and the master of the Hospital of Jerusalem to furnish the patriarch and Prince [Bohemond VI] with a certain sum of gold and silver deposited with the masters, to be spent on the defense of the church and city of Antioch, with the addressees assigned as executors for this, the patriarch and prince have only been able to obtain 320 marks of that money so far, which the master of the Hospital furnished them. And although the master of the Temple paid 400 marks sterling of that money to the cleric Gerardus de Pon[te]tremulo, the procurator and nuncio of the patriarch and prince, he exacted and received from the cleric a pledge in the name of the patriarch and prince that if within a year from then the letter of [Pope Innocentius] were found among the goods of the late Patriarch R[obertus de Nantes] of Jerusalem via which letter [Pope Innocentius] himself granted those same 400 marks to the patriarch of Jerusalem, or if the present pope did not wish the patriarch and prince of Antioch to have those same 400 marks, [Gerardus] would return the aforesaid marks to the same master of the Temple. And in order to give complete security to the same master of the Temple over this, the aforesaid 400 marks were deposited with the people who gave their guarantee over this for the aforesaid time under the aforesaid conditions. But because that land has long suffered from enemy attacks, in order for it to rise again, it needs help, so the patriarch of Antioch humbly asked the pope to provide. Therefore, if the addressees do not find that [Pope Innocentius] granted the oft-mentioned 400 marks to the aforesaid patriarch of Jerusalem, those who gave their guarantee are to be absolved of this without difficulty and the oft-mentioned 400 marks are to be given in full to the aforesaid patriarch and prince [of Antioch] to be used for the protection of the church and city of Antioch as they see fit. For the rest, they are to carry out the mandate of [Pope Innocentius] according to his letter. February 9. Lateran. text: February 18. Lateran. Pope Alexander IV writes to the master, preceptors, convents, and all the brothers of the Hospital of St John in the province of Jerusalem, relating that since he has committed the office of full legation to Patriarch [Jacques Pantaléon] of Jerusalem both in the province of Jerusalem and in the Christian army for the aid to the Holy Land wherever it is in that province, he orders them to receive, treat, and assist him as a legate of the Apostolic See, indeed more truly as the pope in him, accepting and observing his healthy warning and orders as long as he carries out his legation, any indulgence notwithstanding unless it make full and explicit mention of this letter. The pope writes similar letters to the master, convent, and all the brothers of St Lazarus in the province of Jerusalem; to the master, preceptors, convents, and all the brothers of the house of the knighthood of the Temple in the province of Jerusalem; and to the master, convents, and all the brothers of the houses of St Mary of the Teutonics in the province of Jerusalem. text: March 10. (1255 o.s.) Acre. In the palatium of the archbishop of Tyre. In the presence of E[gidius] archbishop of Tyre, B[ernardus], cantor and vicarius episcopi et ecclesie of Acre (Acconensis) presented the case against Signoretus clericus and Marchus clericus de Clavaro (Chiavari). Securities taken from Signoretus and Marchus for the cantor and Girardus canon of Acre and magister Petrus advocatus for as much as 200 besants. Signoretus’s securities are Balduinus Bancarius, Marchio Marqueis dean of Tiberias, Renaldus and Gerardus the executioners (carnifices) and similarly from the cantor. The cantor, Girardus and Petrus swore on the gospels that Signoretus had presented papal letters to the effect that he should have prebend and the office of treasurer of Acre which they asserted were forged (false). The archbishop already had the archdeacon of Tiberias and the treasurer of Caesarea to assist in his judgement, but he now called in the archbishops of Caesarea and Nazareth (Joscelin and Henry), the bishop of Lydda [Arnaud (?)], the abbots of the Templum Domini, Mount Tabor and Saint Samuel, the Franciscan minister, the prior of the Dominicans in Acre with some of his brothers, the marshals of the Temple and Hospital with a large number of their brothers. After an examination of the document, it was declared forged. Signoretus and his associate Marchus were to be held in custody pending sentence to be delivered by the pope. He issues a sealed order that Signoretus be imprisoned for forgery until the papal judgement is made. Other charges included disrupting the services from the stall he had usurped and, making death threats against the cantor, Gerardus and Petrus. Egidius, auctor domini pape judex et natarius publicus wrote his document and added his signature. The archbishop of Tyre attached his seal. March 10. (1255 o.s.) Acre. text: October 10. Anagni. Pope Alexander IV writes to the master and brothers of the house of the knighthood of the Temple in Acre (Accon), relating that the count of Jaffa (Joppensis) is led by such passion for the business of the Holy Land that, as the pope has understood, for the upkeep of the castle of Jaffa (Joppense) he has spent not only all his movable goods and a good portion of his inheritance, but he is heavily burdened by debts. Thus he cannot maintain it alone without help from elsewhere. Since, therefore, as the pope has understood, while alive the late Patriarch G[erold of Lausanne] of Jerusalem deposited in the house of the addressees a certain sum of money for the aid to the Holy Land that is believed to amount to 16,000 Saracen besants and more, and since the loss of the castle would be very detrimental to the Holy Land and the faithful of those parts, the pope orders the addressees to provide Patriarch [Jacques Pantaléon] of Jerusalem, papal legate, without trouble or delay, up to 1,000 silver marks of that money to be spent in support of the castle as the patriarch sees fit. Otherwise the pope is sending a letter to said patriarch to compel them to do so with ecclesiastical censure, after a warning, appeal removed. October 10. Anagni.
