Bernardus makes an eleemosynary grant, giving Raymundus Hospitalis pater and his brothers the tithes of all the property the Hospitallers own in the diocese of Tripoli, except for half the tithes returned in the parish of Artussia, together with the tithes of the mills of Guillelmus Berardi. The Hospital is to retain the tithes of the bishopric of Archae as long as it has possession of the church there. text: 1130 – Aug. 31 1133. Bernardus Bituricensis and his wife Ahoys make an eleemosynary grant to the canons and church of the Holy Sepulchre. They give their house and whatever else they have, including a piece of land near the gate of St Stephen in Jerusalem, which they acquired in return for the payment of a census of 2 besants. They will remain in possession of the house and their other property for their lives. After their deaths a third part of the property is to pass to the canons, although if one of them survives a further third part can pass to the canons in return for support for the rest of the survivor’s life. A third part will go to their daughter and her heirs, if she marries, although it can be exchanged with the canons for 100 besants and if she dies childless it will also pass to the canons. Petrus prior Sancti Sepulchri takes Bernardus and Ahoys into confraternity, in recognition of which Bernardus and Ahoys will give the the church a justa of wine and 2 loaves three times a year: at Christmas, Easter and on the 15 July [Festum Jherusalem]. She assigned as a marriage portion [dotis nomine] 300 besants to the daughter of Willelmus, raised on a statio in the rua Surianorum, which they held of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. Forced by necessity, Petronilla and Adam have the agreement of Willelmus and his daughter to act as they please with respect to the statio. They give the statio as an alms-gift to the Hospital, receiving in charity 360 besants, and with the agreement of the chapter of the Hospital they raise the marriage portion of 300 besants on lands and houses that they hold of the Hospital in Cacho. With the consent of the inhabitants, Bohemond concedes all these, together with his lordships and liege lordships in them, with the agreement of those who have rights, feoda and heritages. The Hospitallers can make war and peace with neighbouring Muslim powers as they please and, when notified, Bohemond will observe them. On the other hand neither he nor his homines will make treaties with the Sarraceni, nor with any Christians allied to them, without the advice of the Hospitallers. Paganus gave Fulco the following: Gybesovart, Due Gobie, Mogar, Gatregalee, Galafiee, Romane, Sellem and all the other land he held of Galterus. Fulco gave Paganus an annual rent of 850 Saracen besants, made up of 500 Saracen besants drawn annually from the meat market [macellum] of Acre, given by King Amalric to Fulco in return for the surrender of his castrum of Saphet which Amalric gave in an eleemosynary grant to the Templars [milicia Templi], and 350 besants from the rent of 700 Saracen besants paid each year to Fulco by the Templars for the building [sartus] he had he had given them. In return for the 850 Saracen besants, Paganus de Caypha will continue to provide the service of 1 miles that he rendered for the above named casalia every time there will be war on the frontiers with the Sarraceni and Galterus requires it. She makes a sealed eleemosynary gift to the Hospital and the poor of the casale of Betheras on the plain of Ascalon, which she had bought with all its rights. She imposes the condition that while she remains in the East the Order will give her 500 besants a year, payable on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. If she should return to the West, the Order will provide her, in place of the 500 besants, with 12 and half marks in unadulterated silver of Troyes weight, payable each Pentecost in the Hospital’s chapter, meeting at Quierzy [Ceresers] or elsewhere.
