text: Mar. 1-31. Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem, with the consent of Petrus prior dominici Sepulcri and his chapter, seals an exchange with the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. The patriarch gives the Hospital some land, situated beween on the east the house of Petrus clericus, on the west and north the porcharia of the patriarch and the Greek nunnery [monasterium Grecarum monialium] and on the south the houses of Robertus Medicus and the monastery of St George. The patriarch also surrenders the rent [censualiter] of 1 besant owed by the Hospital for the houses of Robertus Medicus. In return the Hospital gives the patriarch houses that had belonged to Rainaldus de Monte Laudato, situated beween the vicus Coquinati and the vicus Parmentariorum on the corner [in angulo illo] from which one goes to the church of the Holy Sepulchre. The Hospital has already built a wall on the land. Its maintenance will be shared beween the patriarch and the Hospital. At the request of King Amalric and with the agreement of Hugo Templi Domini abbas, Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem makes a sealed grant, giving Petrus prior and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre a church, dedicated to the Passion and Resurrection of the Lord, founded by the canons on land in Nablus granted them by the king. He gives the church full parochial rights, including baptism, the churching of women, the absolution of the sick and the burial of the dead, together with the right to retain the tithes of produce harvested at their expense. At the request of Petrus prior, Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem confirms under seal for him and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre their possession of the church of St Nicholas, built outside the northern walls of the town of Jaffa, in the field of St Nicholas above the sea. The church, under the title of the Passion and Resurrection, was given to the canons by King Amalric. The patriarch confirms its parochial rights of baptism, the churching of women, the absolution of the sick and burial, together with the right to retain the tithes of all its lands and vineyards. At the request of Petrus prior and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre and in memory of his predecessors, Patriarchs Arnulf and William, Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem confirms under seal the canons’ privileges and endowments. He specifies: half of all oblations to the Holy Sepulchre, but two thirds of the gifts for lights, one third being for the lights themselves, one third being for the canons’ use [servitium] and one third going to the patriarch; oblations to the relic of the True Cross, except on Good Friday or when the patriarch has to carry the relic on a military campaign; in the church of the Holy Sepulchre, the high altar in the canons’ choir, the Prison of Christ and its altar, the altars of St Peter and Stephen and [at the site of] the Finding of the Cross, the altar at the head of the Tomb of Christ which is the parochial altar, together with oblations and offerings to them, the cathedra which is behind the high altar and all oblations made whenever the patriarch celebrates Mass at any of these altars, and all oblations to the Compass, which is in the middle of the canons’ choir; the platea between the door of the church and the columns and the other platea situated between the columns and the Hospital of St John; the houses, stationes, lands and whatever else has been or will be acquired in the patriarchal and Holy Sepulchre quarter; houses, stationes and lands within and without Jerusalem; all ovens in Jerusalem, except for 1 belonging to the Hospital of St John and 1 belonging to St Mary of the Latins, with special reference to the oven Patriarch Amalric himself surrendered, following evidence provided by dominus Petrus Tyrensis archiepiscopus; the church and cemetery outside David Gate, next to the road to Bethlehem; half of that possession that King Baldwin I made over in exchange for the bishopric of Bethlehem; all tithes raised in the city of Jerusalem and its diocese, except for those of the funda; the 21 casalia that Duke Godfrey gave; the ville built by the canons for Latins, with churches, the administration of justice and parochial rights, such as Magna Mahomaria, Parva Mahomaria and Bethsuri; Tecue and the church at Quarantene; Geladia and the land the canons bought from Johannes Gomannus; all the casalia the canons bought from Hugo de Hybelino; the church of St Peter in Jaffa with the tithes throughout the county of Jaffa, granted by the king, religious communities and all Christians; the possessions in Ascalon and its district, in Nablus, in the lordship of Assur, at Caesarea and throughout its archbishopric; castrum Feniculi; a house next to Haifa; Gebul and Lecara; all possessions in the archbishopric of Nazareth, the bishopric of Acre, the archbishopric of Tyre and throughout the kingdom; and all possessions at Mont Pèlerin and throughout the diocese of Tripoli, in Antioch and throughout the patriarchate and principality of Antioch. Patriarch Amalric also confirms all possessions and churches in Sicily, Calabria, Apulia, Brindisi, Barletta, Troia, Rome, Tuscany and all Italy, France, Iberia, and half of the properties held in common with the patriarchate itself in England, Dacia, Germany, Poland, Ruthenia, Georgia, Hungary and Constantinople. The canons have the right to decide on the disposal of those properties in their entire possession and to manage them in a vacancy in the patriarchate. text: Jun. 1-30. Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to Petrus prior Dominici Sepulcri and his chapter, conceding jurisdiction [juriditio] over a vineyard that had belonged to Petrus de Sancto Jacobo, whose share in it the canons of the Holy Sepulchre had bought. The vineyard is bordered on the east and north by a vineyard belonging to the abbey of St Mary of the Latins. On the west is the royal highway [strata regia] that goes from the leprosary of St Lazarus to the lacus Legerii. On the south is the street [via] that goes from the church of St Stephen to the same highway. The grant is made by the patriarch on the conditions that when he dies, the canons will feed 13 poor persons and 13 clerics to sing psalms for his Requiem; that annually on the anniversary of his death 13 poor persons shall be fed; and that 2 candles, costing 1 besant, should be brought to the patriarchal chapel and lit at Michaelmas.
