text: Dec. 25 1161 - Dec. 24 1162. Petrus Tyrensis archiepiscopus confirms an agreement made by him, when he was prior of the Holy Sepulchre, and G. abbas of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat. This ended a dispute over lands at Castrum Feniculi. On a date that had been agreed G. abbas with some of his monks and Petrus with some of his canons met on the site under the mediation of B. Cesariensis archiepiscopus, together with good and faithful men of Caesarea who knew the boundary divisions there. Men chosen from either side walked the bounds from the palm tree to the carob tree, from the carob tree to the sugar cane plantation, from the sugar cane plantation in a direct line to the river [a palmo usque ad carrobletum, a carrobleto usque ad cannetum, a canneto usque ad flumariam recta linea]. Petrus then conceded to St Mary the land, shaped like a tongue, beyond the sugar cane plantation [terram quę a canneto in ultra, quę quasi lingua est], so that the boundary line should be established from the sugar cane plantation across to the river [a canneto per transversum ad flumariam]. Witnesses: B. Cesariensis archiepiscopus; and of the boni viri, Manasses; Gervasius; Aeris de Area; Emelinus miles; Arnaldus Curta Capa; Georgius Herminius; Rainaldus Belgrant and many others.

text: Before Sept. 1. Patriarch Eraclius of Jerusalem confirms an agreement, made in his presence and at the orders of Pope Lucius III, between the abbey of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat and the Knights Templar. He records how his predecessors Patriarchs Arnulf and Warmund gave St Mary under the abbates Hugo and Gelduinus the tithes of 2 royal casalia called Meseraz and Dalphym. Over time these casalia were transferred from the royal domain [dominium regis] into the lordship [dominium] of the Knights Templar, who refused to pay the tithes. The Templars now agree to pay half tithes on wheat, wine, barley, oil, vegetables and also money [byzancii], except the fodder for animals used by themselves, and on gardens and churches, if it should happen that these are established with parochial rights. The agreement has been sealed by the chapters of St Mary and of the Knights Templar. The agreement was witnessed by the following brothers of the knighthood of the Temple [milicia Templi]: frater Arnaldus de Turre Rubea Templi magister; frater Gyrardus de Radifort Templi senescalcus; frater Girbertus Arayl magnus preceptor; frater Robertus Fraisnel; frater Ursus de Alneto; frater Otho de Chaorzos. Other witnesses: princeps Reynal-dus; Nichola de Bethencort; Unbertus Acon.

text: 1197. [256] Bernardus ecclesie Sancti Pauli de Antiochia abbas records under seal an agreement of confraternity made in the chapter of St Paul of Antioch with the abbey of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat. When an abbot of St Paul visits St Mary he will be received as an abbot and can enter the choir and chapter and in the absence of the abbot of St Mary can absolve the monks from excommunication. His advice will be sought in election to the abbacy of St Mary and he will have the right to give his assent after the patriarch and the king. If the electors cannot agree on a suitable candidate the electors should look to elect someone from St Paul. The death of an abbot of St Mary will be treated with the same ceremony in St Paul as if he was an abbot there. Monks from St Mary visiting St Paul will be treated as if members of the same congregation. Monks who leave in discord from St Mary will be received by St Paul but will be disciplined and will be expected to make peace with their own community, but they will be sent away if they have been excommunicated. The deaths of monks of St Mary will be commemorated in St Paul, except that there will not be the usual alms-giving. If the land of Antioch falls into the hands of the Turci, St Mary will provide for the monks of St Paul. The abbot and monks of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat will enjoy the same rights in St Paul as have been specified for the abbot and monks of St Paul.
