Baldwin, secundus dei gratia rex Iherusalem/dei gratia secundus Latinorum rex Iherosolimitanus, responding to the request of Patriarch Warmund and the clergy and people of Jerusalem, and with the assent of his optimates makes a sealed eleemosynary grant, remitting the customs duty [consuetudines] which has been exacted at the gate of the city from those bringing in grain, hay and vegetables, because this has caused hardship to both pilgrims visiting the Holy Sepulchre and the residents of the city. Baldwin absolves from any exaction all those, whether Muslim [Sarraceni] or Christian, who bring grain or hay, beans, lentils and chickpeas through the gates of Jerusalem. They are to have the freedom to enter and leave and to sell where and to whomsoever they want. Baldwin also remits half of (other) customs duties (consuetudinaria). Baldwin per dei gratiam rex Iherusalem Latinorum secundus makes a sealed eleemosynary grant, confirming for the church and canons of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem their possession of a casale called Derina, situated near Tyre [in terminis Tyri] close to the great spring [fons] that feeds the aqueduct. The territory of the casale, situated on the hillside, comprises 4 carrucates [tantum terrᶒ, quantum quatuor paria boum poterunt excolere de anno ad annum]. Baldwin excludes from the confirmation another unnamed casale, on which he recognizes the Holy Sepulchre has claims, and a garden [ortus] situated between the sea wall and sea forewall of the city. He confirms under his seal everything given in the reigns of his predecessors to the Hospital. He confirms those gifts made during his reign, specifying the following. In the territory of Jerusalem, Gosfridus de Parentea gave 4 partes terre at a place called Beccafaba. Gosfridus also gave a garden with cisterns next to the Tower of David, with roads on either side, one of which runs to Bethlehem. Adam de Ramis gave a house with a cistern inside, situated in front of the house of Guido de Miliaco and next to the Gate of the Temple, from where the road goes to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. Witnesses of Adam’s gift were: Aschetinus vicecomes; Vgo de Ramis; Gosfridus de Acula; Alfanus; Siherius de Beritto; Porcellus; Rancoldus de Ponzo. Alanus Boccerius gave a house in Jerusalem, before the witnesses: Aschetinus vicecomes; Guerricus; Hanricus Burgundio. Bernardus de Tolosia and his wife Rufa gave a house in Jerusalem situated before the church of St Martin. Alfanus gave himself and all his property and houses in the piazza of the money-changers [platea nummulariorum] in the presence of the witnesses: Paganus Cesariensis electus, olim cancellarius tantum; Vgo comes Trescensis; Gosfridus de Parentea; Aschetinus vicecomes; Rodulfus camerarius; Rainaldus de Ponzo; Gosfridus Acula; Siherius de Beritto; Porcellus. In the territory of Acre, Barda Armenus and his wife, with the agreement of their children, gave their casale called Coketum. Baldwin, dei gratia rex Iherusalem Latinorum secundus, makes an eleemosynary grant with the consent of his daughter Melisende, giving the church of the Holy Sepulchre, its prior Wilelmus and its canons a casale named Cafermelic/ Cafermelich in the territory of Nablus with its lands and villani, except for the villani who were transferred by Romanus de Podio to the casale of Beteflori. The canons in return renounce their claim for a rent of 200 besants taken from the revenues [in redditu] of Nablus. In the presence of Patriarch Stephen [of Chartres] of Jerusalem and the witnesses listed below, the king orders Paganus his cancellarius to draw up the charter and attach his lead seal. text: Jul. 27 1128 – Jun. 2 1129. Because the heavy duties levied in the port of Acre gravely weigh down pilgrims, Baldwin, dei gratia rex Iherusalem Latinorum secundus, makes an eleemosynary grant at the request of Patriarch Stephen. He frees the pilgrims coming to Palestine from the payment of any duty [datio census] on cloth or on all other goods they bring with them up to the value of 40 besants. If the pilgrims assure the custodes portus that the goods are for their own use, no tax will be levied. If necessity forces the pilgrims to sell any surplus in the port, they should pay what is customary and right.

The king also gives another casale called Sardanas which is close to [ante] the city of Tyre, except for part of the land between the mountain and the king’s viridarium, which he retains for his own use. He orders Paganus his cancellarius to seal the charter with his lead seal.Witnesses: Milissenda filia regis et regni Ierosolimitani haeres; Hugo Ioppe dominus; Ansellus de Bria; Barianus Iope constabularius; Ioannes camerarius; Hulricus Neapolis vicecomes; Bernardus Vaccarius; Hemelinus vicecancellarius, who wrote the charter. text: Sept. 27 1130 - Aug 21 1131. Baldwin, dei gratia rex Iherusalem Latinorum secundus, had made a sealed eleemosynary grant to the church of the Holy Sepulchre, represented by Wilelmus prior and the canons. He had given a casale called Cafermelech in the territory of Nablus with all its lands and villani, except for 2 villani who had been transferred by Romanus de Podio to the casale of Betheflori. In return the canons of the Holy Sepulchre had surrendered their claim on 200 besants, which they had from the revenues [redditus] of Nablus. At the canons’ request Baldwin now restores the 2 rustici with their progeny and heirs, to the Holy Sepulchre and Petrus eiusdem prior. He does this in the presence and with the agreement of [Fulk] comes Andegavensis and Milissende his daughter. In the presence of Patriarch William [of Malines] of Jerusalem he orders Amelinus, his cancellarius, to write the charter and attach his lead seal. Witnesses: Petrus capellanus regis; Radulfus camerarius regis; Martinus de Nazareth; Anscatinus vicecomes Iherusalem; Olricus vicecomes Neapolis and many others.
