John, de gratia Latinorum Ierusalem rex decimus, records under seal that when frater Harmandus magister and the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans surrendered to him half of the spoil they had gained in the capture of Damietta, he promised them that this would not create a prejudicial precedent.
