Mindful of the magnificent contribution the city of Genoa made to the liberation of the eastern regions, its defence [of Tyre] and now the part its consul, nobles and citizens, with milites, pedites, balistarii and sagittarii, and siege engines, are playing in the siege of Acre, Conradus, marchionis Montisferrati filius, Tyri atque Sydonis et Berithi domnus, makes a sealed grant to the commune of Genoa and its citizens, represented by Guido de Spinula Ianuensium consul. He gives them a free curia in the city of Tyre, freedom to come and go by sea or land, to buy and sell in the fundicum of Tyre without the payment of any dues, and freedom from prosecution for any crime except homicide, theft and rape, and from imprisonment. He grants them the freedom to use their own weights and measures [cantarii, buzae et modii] in Tyre. He gives them casale Sancti Georgii, Oraca, a large garden belonging to the queen and small gardens situated under the castelletum and within the city wall near the castellum, and a large mill that belonged to the king; a bath house before the house of Fulco de Falesia, in which both men and women bathe, the oven in the burgus novus with a volta adjacent to it, a macellum with 3 houses, a platea that stretches as far as the house of Habraha piscator, and all the houses in 2 insulae which are in front of the macellum, extending on one side as far as the house of Tebaldus aurifex and on the other to the house of magister Petrus Ianuensis, as contained in the charter from Count Raymond [III] of Tripoli; a third part of the proceeds of the cathena of Tyre, after expenses have been deducted; and the house of Opicio Lumbardus situated over the port of Tyre, which is bounded by the house of Obertus de Sandala, the house of Gandulfus Saonensis, the public way and a private road [via privata], together with all the houses and tenement held by Opicius behind his house and beyond the private road. He confirms its possession of a curia and ruga in the city of Acre, just as it held them before, and whatever it had outside Acre. He also gives a third part of the entry charges [introitus] of the cathena of Acre, together with freedom to enter and leave by sea or land and to buy and sell in the fundicum and catena, and throughout the city, without paying any charge [redditus]. He gives the Genoese the right to a curia, house, bath house and oven, and to entry and departure and to buy and sell in Jaffa, Ascalon and Jerusalem, and in all the territory he should acquire, with the same freedom they have in Tyre and Acre. He promises to restore the golden Genoese inscription in the church of the Holy Sepulchre. Mindful of the magnificent contribution the city of Genoa made to the liberation and defence of the eastern regions and the siege of Acre with milites, pedites, balistarii and sagittarii, and siege engines, and with the consent of his wife domna Ysabella regis Amalrici filia, Henricus, Trecensium comes palatinus Tyri et Accon domnus, makes a sealed grant to the commune of Genoa and its citizens, represented by Gafforius victoriosi stolii Ianuensium amiratus. He confirms their free curia in the city of Acre. They are confirmed in their freedom from prosecution in any curia or in the cathena of Acre for any crime except homicide, theft and rape, and from imprisonment. They are free to come and go by sea or land, to buy and sell in the fundicum or the cathena without the payment of dues. Henricus confirms the Genoese possession of the ruga beati Laurentii in Acre and the freedom of the inhabitants from prosecution. He licenses the Genoese to build a tower in their ruga, should they wish to do so. He gives them the right to complete the building of the church of St Laurence in Tyre and he confirms all their rights in Tyre described in their charter. He promises to return the possessions of Ellena, the daughter of the late Rogerius de Insula, and her husband Ansaldus Bonivicinus within the next 8 days. Henricus, Ysabella, domnus Radulfus de Tabaria regni Ierosolimorum senescalcus, domnus Hugo de Tabaria and domnus Raginaldus Sydoniensis swear to be guarantors of this grant, as do the senescalcus domus militie [Templi] and the magister domus Hospitalis and their chapters. [275] Bohemond [IV], son of Prince Bohemond, per Dei gratiam princeps Antiochenus et comes Tripolitanus, makes a sealed grant to the commune of Genoa and all Genoese, represented by Lambertus Fornarius and Belmustus Lercarius, the consuls of Genoa. He gives the Genoese freedom to sell, buy, import and export money freely without the payment of duty [sine omni consuetudine et jure peccunie], except to those Genoese who are burgenses of the kingdom of Jerusalem, the county of Tripoli, the principality of Antioch or Cyprus. He gives the Genoese the right to a curia, but cases of homicide, sedition, rape, money, or physical force on a person or his goods ought to be judged in Bohemond’s curia. The Genoese may buy certain houses in Tripoli. The charter is issued on condition that the Genoese will swear to assist Bohemond in the defence of Tripoli should he require such aid. If an individual should refuse to swear such an oath they will be banished from his land. With the agreement of his liegemen [homines ligii] in full court and appreciative of the assistance given to him by the Genoese, Henry, Dei gratia rex Cypri, records under seal that he gives the commune of Genoa, represented by Ingo Ferrarius and Guillelmus de Orto, consules et vicecomites Ianuensium in Syria, the right to have a court, consulate and viscounty in the kingdom of Cyprus, with full jurisdiction over Genoese according to their customs, except in the cases of treason, homicide and rape [raptus]. He gives the Genoese the right to trade throughout the kingdom of Cyprus, coming going and sailing without the payment of dues [tholoneum seu vectigal, drictura, dacita], except that for anything assessed by weight they should pay the servants of the crown 1 denarius for every 10 modii of wine, wheat, barley, vegetables and 1 denarius for every 1 quintarium of other things. He gives a casale called Dispoire in the territory of Limassol with all its male and female rustici. He gives houses in Nicosia that had belonged to Silvester, adjoining the public way and public watecourse [flumen publicum], behind which are on one side the field of Raimundus de Furno and on the other the house of Bertramus de Vitri, where the consules and vicecomites of the Genoese are temporarily residing. He gives a bath house in Nicosia, before the houses that belonged to the late Revaildine Seissons. He gives the houses in Limassol that once belonged to Uguytius de Calcinaria with a tower on the sea shore, separated from the houses by a public way; they adjoin the public way and a prison [domus convitii]. He gives houses in Famagusta that once beonged to Reinaldus Anconitanus, situated between the public way and the sea, with on one side a road going to the sea and on the other houses. He gives houses in Paphos, in the place called Carine. In each of these locations the consules may construct an oven for the use of the Genoese. He promises security to the Genoese, who will owe no servitium.
