text: Jun. 1-30. Jerusalem. Amalric, sancte civitatis Ierhusalem Francorum rex quintus, with the advice and agreement of all his [burgess] court [curia], makes an eleemosynary grant to both the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and the abbey of St Mary Major, confirming that he has given them the street [via] that runs between their houses. The entry to the street in the north is from the ruha palmariorum, facing the church of the Holy Sepulchre. It runs between the communities and then below houses of the Hospital of St John before exiting in the south in the ruha balneorum patriarche. The rights of the two communities are defined as follows. St Mary possesses the street from its start as far as an arch surrounded by a wall [quendam arcum pariete clausum]. The abbey can build houses, as long as they are not higher than the foot of signs of the cross which are inscribed on the walls of the Hospital of St John. From the arch there is a space between the church of the Hospital and the houses of the nuns of St Mary which is to remain empty, with no building permitted. The nuns may not construct doorways or windows there. From the space down to the ruha balneorum patriarche the street is to be the property of the Hospital of St John, which can do whatever it likes in it. The water channels [conducti] are to be managed by both communities in the parts of the street for which they are responsible. The nuns should not engage in work on the wall of the church of the Hospital. Witnesses: of the brothers of the Hospital, Frater Garinus de Melna preceptor; frater Stephanus thesaurarius; frater Garnerius castellanus Gibelini; frater Bernardus magister asinarie; and others; of the nuns, Stephania abbatissa; Richeldis de Ierhusalem filia Milonis Clerici; Mahaldis de Neapolis; Mahaldis de Ramis; Amelot; and others; of the men [viri] of Jerusalem, Harnulfus vicecomes; Robertus de Pinquineo; Goffridus de Turonis; Lanbertus Patriarche; Albertus Lonbardus; Iohannnes Bricius; Willelmus de Punz; Thomas Patriz; Reinaldus de Belgrant de Cesarea; Petrus de Sancto Lazaro; Constantius Tortus; magister Guncelinus; and others.
