In the [burgess] curia of King Amalric, Hodeardis, widow of Oto de Verduno, with the agreement of her sons Henricus and Guido and her daughters Isabella, the wife of Iohannes Aschetinus, and Benedicta, the wife of Ioffridus filius Simonis iudicis, and also Iasza, the wife of Henricus Balistarius, makes a sale, masked as an eleemosynary grant, of a curtile to magister Iosbertus, the poor and the brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. The curtile is situated between the public way that leads to Bethlehem and the way that leads to Acheldamach, the lacus Germani and a garden of the Hospital. In return the Hospital gives Hodeardis 760 besants out of charity and receives the whole family into confraternity. Henricus, Guido, Isabella with her husband Iohannes, Benedicta with her husband Ioffridus, and Iasza with her husband Henricus Balistarius guarantee the transfer. Baldwin, per dei gratiam in sancta civitate Ierusalem Latinorum rex sextus, confirms by sealed charter the concession in the royal curia in Acre made by Rohardus, with the agreement of his wife Delina, of the drugomanagia of the casalia of Cabur, Tyron and Coket to Barutus and his heirs. The drugomanagia had been given to Barutus by Ivetta, the grandmother of Rohardus, and by her son Petrus Filiolus. Barutus has given Rohardus 225 besants and has paid homage [hominium fecisti] for the drugomanagia. He will receive from every villanus in the casalia 1 modius of wheat and 1 modius of barley for every carrucata that is individually worked; and with respect for each carrucata held in common by the lord [domnus] and the villani, 2 manipuli of wheat and 2 manipuli of barley from the harvest [annona]. When he visits one of the casalia the villani will provide victuals for him and his horse. When he travels outside the casalia with his lord, the latter will provide only for his horse. If he loses the horse in the service of his lord [in servitio domni] the latter will give him 15 besants. For every 100 modii harvested [de annona] communally by the lord and villani, Barutus will receive 6 modii, or less in proportion to the harvest. Petrus, the son of Petrus de Caors, with the agreement of his brothers Rainaudus and Hugo, sells part of his inheritance in vico Montis Sion in Jerusalem, comprising houses and a guastina, to his brother Clarembaldus for 50 besants. The houses, between which is situated the house that had been occupied by Jordanus Clericus, are bounded: on the east by the house of Willelmus Patron, the aforesaid gastina and the house of Albericus Parvus on the other side of the public way; on the south by the house of domina Eva Placharia; on the west by the houses of dominus Boamundus Buflus, Oba/Obera Cementarius, Petrus de Ve and his brothers; on the north by the houses of Petrus de Ve and his brothers. The guastina is bounded: on the east by the houses of Rohardus Toset across the via arcus Jude; on the north by the houses of Willelmus Patron; on the south and across the road by the house of Albericus Parvus; on the west by the houses that are the subject of this sale and the house of Jordanus Clericus, divided by the via Montis Sion. Should any legal challenge be made, Petrus must defend his sale according to the usages and customs [usus et consuetudines] of the city of Jerusalem. With the agreement of her son Petrus, Gila makes an eleemosynary gift, masking the sale for 850 besants to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem of her house with a cistern in vico David [in Jerusalem], which is bordered on the east by the house of Stephanus Umbertus, on the west by the house of Robertus de Baugencio, and on the south by the public way, the vicus David. The Hospitallers receive Gila and Petrus into confraternity. They pay Gila 450 besants and in place of remaining 400 besants they give either the house of Petrus Tornator, which once belonged to Karsia Bocharia and is bordered by the house of Albertus patriarche pincerna, the public way which is the vicus Templi and the royal slaughterhouse [regis excorticatio], or half of the taberna the Hospitallers own in vico David. Should Gila and Petrus die without heirs, all their property will pass to the Order and they will be buried with the rites of a brother and sister of the Hospital. Should Petrus have heirs, he and his part of the inheritance will nevertheless belong to the Hospital.
