text: Jan. 2. Lateran. Pope Celestine III writes to the bishops of Paphos, Limassol and Famagusta, and the clergy of the diocese of Nicosia. At the request of King Aimery of Cyprus, he has reformed the church of Cyprus, establishing under papal authority an archbishop and 3 bishops. He commends as papal legates to the island A[lanus], now archbishop of Nicosia, who had been cancellarius regis, and the bishop of Paphos, who had been archdeacon of Latakia. The consecrations were performed by the archbishop of Nazareth and the bishops of Bethlehem and Acre. He sends the pallium, requested by the chapter of Nicosia, through the bishop of Paphos and Leonardus and Radulphus canonici Nicosienses.
