text: Nov. 7. Lateran. Pope Honorius III confirms for the abbas and convent of Episcopia the eleemosynary grant made by the late King Hugh of Cyprus to the late I prior ecclesie Sancte Marie Montis Cyrinarum, Ordinis Sancti Augustini, and his successors of the place [locus] Taylus, in which the abbey is situated, and the place called Episcopia. The pope also confirms the abbey’s freedom and immunity from tithes, granted by the late Alanus Nicosiensis archiepiscopus with the agreement of his chapter, saving the obedience that Cistercians customarily accord to their bishops.

text: Mar. 8. Lateran. At the request of the abbas Sancte Marie de Episcopia, Pope Honorius III takes the abbey under papal protection, establishing the religious life of the canons, who follow the rule of St Augustine as Premonstratensians. He confirms its possessions, specifically the place [locus] where it is situated and the casale called Prestia. The abbey is exempted from the payment of tithes on noval lands. It may receive postulants, is exempt from interdicts and may receive chrism from from the diocesan bishop. No one may build a chapel or oratory in its parrochia without episcopal assent. The laity can choose burial by the monks, who may recover tithes appropriated by laymen. The election of abbots should be free. No crime can be committed on the abbey’s property.
