Confirmation by Jean, abbé of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat, and Eve, abbesse of St Lazarus of Bethany, of an exchange of lands made by their predecessors Pierre, abbot of St Mary, and Judith, daughter of King Baldwin [II] and abbess of St Lazarus. The lands involved are as follows. The monks have a pecia terre, which is adjacent to the land of Balatas and next to the viridarium S. Salvatoris. This belonged to the casale of Aschar, but on it is planted a vineyard belonging to the casale of Balatas. Another pecia terre, which Tarcanus held and belonged to the casale of Balatas, has been [exchanged] by the abbess of St Lazarus and nuns for land held by Beseror, which depended on the casale of Aschar. Bohemond III, dei gratia princeps Antiochenus, the son of Prince Raymond, records that with the consent of his chapter Ioannes abbas of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat has, at the prince’s request, leased a gastina called Uetus Funda, owned by the abbey at Latakia, to Philippus de Logiis for a rent [censualiter] of 21 besants of Antioch [bisancii Antiocheni], payable each year on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. If the rent should not be paid within 15 days of the due date, the abbey may repossess the gastina with the buildings in it. Witnesses: Hugo de Logiis; Richerius de Lerminat; Galterius de Archiquin; Bernardus Soberan; Willelmus Abbas; Ioffredus de Molins. The charter was drawn up by Willelmus vicecancellarius.
