Baldwin, dei gratia Ierosolimorum et sancte civitatis Latinorum quartus rex, together with his mother Melisende, regina, confirms the agreement, negotiated in the presence of King Fulk in Jerusalem and Nablus and made between the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and Robertus Sancti Egidii and his wife Odula, with the agreement of Rohardus vicecomes and his wife Gilla and of Patriarch William, who confirmed it. Robertus and his wife give the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, Raimundus magister and its brothers the land of Emaus with its casalia, just as Robert had held it as a feudum from Rohardus and his wife. In return the brothers of the Hospital will pay Robertus and his heirs each year a census of 250 besants at Easter or within 40 days and another 250 besants at the Feast of All Saints. The land will revert to Robert if the Hospitallers fail to pay, but Robert can, if he wishes, make an eleemosynary grant to the brothers of up to 100 of these besants, or sell or commute them. Such an act will be confirmed by Rohardus as an eleemosynary gift. The remaining 400 besants will continue to be paid. Baldwin, per gratiam dei in sancta Ierusalem Latinorum rex quartus, confirms under seal the agreement made on his orders by Girardus de Valentia with the Latins [Latini] newly established in Casale Huberti de Paci. Girardus has given the colonists [incolae], who he has placed there, houses to be held by hereditary right. The Latins will render to King Baldwin a 7th part of the harvest of the land [fructus terre] which has been assigned to them to work, keeping 6 parts for themselves. They will render to the king a 15th part of the bread baked in the oven, and a 10th part of anything else cooked there. Whenever they bathe in the bath house they will each pay half a denarius. They will pay 1 denarius as a weights and measures tax [pro mensuratione] for each besant’s worth [bisantiata] of whatever they buy in relation to the casale. They can sell bread, wine, meat and other things in Acre without paying any dues. They can use the mill of Ferge 3 days and nights each week, saving royal rights. The cultivators of vineyards and gardens, which Giraldus de Valentia leases out on the king’s behalf for periods of time will render the king a fourth part of the fruits, keeping 3 parts for themselves, and the tenants of olive groves, assigned each a part by Giraldus, will collectively render two-thirds of the fruits to the king, keeping a third part for themselves. Sales of houses and lands in the casale will be respected, but in every sale 1 carrupla in the besant will go to the king. Baldwin, per gratiam dei in sancta Iherusalem Latinorum rex quartus, with the assent of Queen Melisende his mother and Amalricus comes Ascalonitanus his brother, confirms as a sealed eleemosynary grant the exchange made in the time of his father Fulk rex Iherosolimorum illustris, in which Johannes Patricius recorded that he had exchanged 2 of his casalia, called Megina and Mezera, for 2 casalia, called Caphermelich and Anquina, which belonged to the Holy Sepulchre. He made this exchange with the consent of Babinus from whom Johannes held his feodum and in the presence of King Baldwin and Queen Melisende. The exchange made by Johannes had been approved by his relation [cognatus] Petrosus, his wife Bruna, and his sons Thomas and Eustachius. A condition of the exchange was that if Johannes or his heirs infringed the rights of the Holy Sepulchre, such damage would be made good. Since disputes had arisen in the reign of King Fulk over the exchange, its terms are now confirmed.
