With the agreement of his wife domna Ysabella regis Amalrici filia, Aimery, per dei gratiam rex Ierusalem nonus et rex Cipri, records under seal that he has sold the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans a casale in the region of Acre called Aguille with its villani and gastinae for 3000 Saracen besants. He adds the following gifts: the right to take a rotula of sugar each day from the sugar press [masarium] in his casale called Fiergio for the needs of the sick in the hospital; in Casale Vmberti and his other casalia in the region of Acre the right to take each year 1 clicha of wheat and 1 clicha of barley from every worked carruca, to be provided by the rustici; 5 carrublae paid by the rustici for every 100 goats wintering in Aimery’s land, and 2 out of the 10 carrublae which Aimery levies for every 10 goats; 3 karrublae provided by the rustici for every carrucata owing Aimery 2 besants. Aimery confirms the eleemosynary gifts and old freedom [francisia] granted to the hospital in Cyprus by King Amalric. With the agreement of his wife the Lady Queen Isabella, daughter of King Amalric, Aimery, dei gracia rex Ierusalem Latinorum nonus et rex Cypri, records under seal that he has sold to the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans a casale called Lebassa in the territory of Acre, together with a property called Massop, which is presently a gastina, for 2300 Saracen besants. The brothers will hold the casale and gastina on the same terms as they were held by Iohannes regius marsecalcus. Aimery’s homines have established the boundaries. In the presence of King John of Jerusalem and his curia, Iniorannus dominus Bove sells under seal to the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans, represented by frater Hermannus magister domus sancte Marie Teutonicorum Ierusalem, a house in Tyre and its dependencies for 1000 Saracen besants of Acre weight, which has already been paid. The brothers can do whatever they wish with the house, although they may not dispose of it to churchmen or religious communities. The house is bordered on the east by the sea, which washes at the house’s foot. On the west it extends as far as the street [vicus] that leads to the tannery [la taneria]. On the south it is next to a house belonging to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, which once belonged to Sancha Martin, and on the north it extends as far as the house of Eustacius Buseka and his brothers. In the presence and with the agreement of Patriarch Gerold of Jerusalem, who, together with the abbas de Iosaphat and frater Haymo, seals the charters, the chapter of the abbey of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat and the chapter of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans, Radulfus abbas sancte Marie de valle Josaphat and frater Haymo vices gerens fratris Hermanni magistri citra mare domus hospitalis Alamannorum record under seal that Iohannes de Canay/Chanay miles sold to the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans the abbey’s casale called Keissereth/Kassareth and the gastina called Mahus. Iohannes had paid the abbey an annual rent of 30 Saracen besants. Frater Haymo and the common chapter of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans promise to pay St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat an annual rent of 50 Saracen besants, to be delivered at Martinmas, but in exchange for the rent, they give St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat a house, held from them by Rollandus de Tercenal/Terceval, which returns 24 besants in rent, and a gastina with little houses [domunculae] and logiae, which returns a rent of 26 besants. The house is situated in the platea that stretches to the cathena in the lower vicus [of Acre] near the sea. The gastina borders on the east the gastina of dominus Haymo miles Alamannus. On its west is the public way that runs to the auberge [alberga] of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. On the south is a lane [viculus] and on the north the gastina adjoins the curia of dominus archiepiscopus Nazarenus. If for any reason the house and gastina cannot be handed over, the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans will recompense the abbey in an equivalent manner, according to the patriarch of Jerusalem’s arbitration.
