Baldwin, per dei gratiam in sancta civitate Ierusalem Latinorum rex septimus, with the agreement of Raimundus comes Tripolis et totius regni procurator and Balianus Neapolis domnus, confirms under seal the sale by Guido raicius de Neapoli to the abbey of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat of half of a guastina called Mesdedule, in the territory of Nablus, together with half the land in the guastina and a villanus living there called Mensor and his sons, for 4050 besants. Guido had been given the guastina by King Amalric, but now, with the agreement of his wife and heirs, he has sold it in the royal curia per assisiam terre, because he cannot pay Balianus Neapolis domnus and the assisi of Nablus the revenues for which he had made an exchange. Baldwin, per dei gratiam in sancta civitate Ierusalem Latinorum rex septimus, confirms under seal the endowments made in various charters to the church of St Samuel [of Montjoie] and the Premonstratensian canons living there. He specifies: the gift made by King Baldwin II of the mountain on which the church is situated, together with its land, and the freedom of weights and measures in the gates, fundae and cathenae throughout the kingdom, so that the canons can buy and sell, import and export everything necessary without payment of taxes [absque alicuius exactionis, vectigalis tributi ac retributionis praestatione aliqua facienda]; King Fulk’s gift of the casale of Margara with all its villani, as measured out by Vlricus vicecomes Neapolitanus and Petrus Bonarius, and the casale of Betania, at the foot of the mountain of St Samuel [Mons Gaudii]; Queen Melisende’s gift of the casale of Bethela, for which King Baldwin IV granted the Knights Templar [milites Templi] a rent of 40 besants a year, and the gastinae of Bethaget, Amazor, Bisene and Gedesa; the gift of the casale between Blanca Garda et Galathia, named Casale Sancti Salvatoris by King Amalric, with a boundary measured out by the men [homines] of Blanca Garda, with 2 carrucatae terrae which Holmundus sold to Gillebertus castellanus for 52 besants, and part of the land of Reinaldus de Neapoli, which Reinaldus had sold to the canons of St Samuel for 30 besants with houses, a cavea, a threshing floor [area] and a garden that he possessed at Blanca Garda; 4 carrucatae terrae before Jaffa, next to the river, which the miles Laurarchus first had, and the land stretching from that property as far as the Mortuum Flumen, as marked out by the men [homines] of King Amalric and handed over to the brothers with the land that Pontius Galiota sold them; the casale Torasdis, situated on the flank of Mons Audi Fratris, with its land and the villani that are known to have lived there since the time of the siege of Antioch, given by Queen Melisende to the church of St Samuel and to the church of St John the Evangelist in Nablus, which had once been a mahomeria; a rent of 200 besants a year given by King Baldwin III, to be drawn each year from the funda of Acre; a house in Acre, given by Homo Dei, a tower on the wall of Acre next to that house, and a camera which the brothers of St Samuel had bought from Petrus Filot; houses the brothers possess in Jerusalem, of which one is before the Tower of David, the rest are by the Arcum Iudae; houses with stationes and camerae and a garden in Ascalon, given at the time of the city’s capture by King Baldwin III and his brother King Amalric; a field [campus terrae] next to the road that runs from Maior Machomeria to Jerusalem near Mons Gaudii, which belonged to the church of St Samuel in the time of the Muslims [Sarraceni]; a house with cistern, garden and 6 carrucatae terrae at Ibelinum, given by charter as an eleemosynary grant by Barisan and his wife Helvidis, with the agreement of their sons Hugo, Balduinus et Barisanus; the chapel of St Longinus in Jerusalem with 100 besants to serve the chapel, given as an eleemosynary grant by King Amalric, together with 10 besants a year from the assisia of Odo de Sancto Amando drawn from the funda of Acre, as expressed in King Amalric’s charter; 2 carrucatae terrae in the territory of Jaffa, which the brothers bought from Henricus Maya; 3 carrucatae in the territory of Blanca Garde, given as an eleemosynary grant by Petrus de Blanca Garda, when he was received by the community as a brother, together with a camera in the same territory, which the canons bought from Iterius; for this and three other properties already referred to, the brothers agreed to pay Galterius de Blanca Garda 8 bisants in rent [censuales], to be drawn from the revenues from the house in Ascalon they had been given by King Baldwin III and King Amalric; 2 other carrucatae terrae in the same territory which they bought through the gift of…….
